The voice for
Queensland's
building design
profession

What we do

BDQ is the peak body representing building design industry professionals in Queensland. We believe that the building design industry is fundamental in shaping Queensland’s built environment.

To keep our members at the forefront of the industry, BDQ performs a wide range of functions aimed at advocating for our profession and supporting our members to make our built environment better. BDQ’s role is to protect our members and provide certainty to their clients that they are partnering with a qualified, reputable and experienced building designer.

What we stand for

We support and advocate for our members by providing:

  • Continuing professional development opportunities via our CPD program
  • An annual Design Awards Program where they can showcase their work and gain recognition
  • Representation on regional, state and national industry boards
  • Access to up-to-date industry knowledge, technical information and the latest trends
  • Access to industry partners and professional support
  • Networking opportunities through local branch events
  • Representation at state and local government to benefit our members and our profession
  • Encouragement to our members to make a positive contribution to our community and the built environment
  • Promotion of the importance of the building design industry to the wider community

How we’ve evolved

Since we formed as BDAQ in 1990, our mission has been to protect our profession, enhance our standing and support our members. In 1993, after 3 years of lobbying, building designers were officially licensed under The Queensland Building Services Authority Act.

BDQ is now a thriving, independent Queensland organisation that collaborates with other state and national associations to enhance the public recognition of building designers at local, state and national levels.
