Getting Timber Right – Specification, Grading and Compliance
August 26 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Presented by Timber Queensland, this free webinar tackles one of the most persistent sources of project delays and disputes: confusion around timber grading, unclear specifications and inappropriate substitutions. Timber specification decisions shape more than aesthetics — they influence compliance, procurement, certification and construction outcomes across the design-supply-construction chain.
Hosted online via Zoom, the session brings together three industry experts. Lex Sommerville (BMCC Services) opens with a session on understanding timber grades and what MGP, F-grades, visual and machine grading actually mean in practice. James Dunstan (Professional Certification Group) follows with a certifier’s perspective on where specifications break down and how to avoid it. Cici Cai (Pryda) closes out the technical program with a look at substitutions — how alternatives should be assessed and what compliance pathways are required before they reach site.
You’ll come away with:
- A clear understanding of the differences between MGP grades, F-grades, hardwood grades, visual grading and machine grading
- Practical guidance on avoiding specification mistakes that lead to procurement issues and compliance risk
- A better grasp of how to assess and document compliant timber substitutions
